This point was brought to my attention, a long time ago, by a friend of a friend who is a soldier(Sorry I don't recall the name) while we were talking about Cloverfield. He was annoyed with the portrayal of military in movies. Also recently I saw the trailer to Skyline, which really brought this idea home.
